The Werftquartier in Bremerhaven is considered the largest urban development project in the region. Covering an area of around 140 hectares, the site of the former shipyard is located in the Geestemünde district. The Werftquartier lies between the “Schaufenster Fischereihafen” and the city center with the Havenwelten. A mix of science, commerce, tourism, leisure with restaurants and cafés, as well as waterfront living, will bring new vitality to the district.

Shipyard and port activities have shaped the area for decades. Its industrial charm will be preserved, among other things, through the integration of the slipway, cranes, the pre-assembly hall with construction docks, and the shipyard harbor.
The funds for development — apart from infrastructural measures, which are the responsibility of the city and the state — are largely provided by private investors.
